Immortal Guides, New EdenGÇÖs second largest DUST training Corp, is celebrating one year of orienting new players to the complexities of DUST 514. Unlike other Corps, Immortal Guides measures its success by the number of members who leave the Corp to join other player Corps, as that means that Immortal Guides has done its job in helping them to develop the confidence in their abilities to follow their DUST careers. Of course our members are always welcome, and many of them come back for short stays when they find themselves in transition, whether it is to help orient the new players, or just hang out for some casual play.
Why do we do what we do? Well having people tell us that they would have quite DUST if it had not been for Immortal Guides helping to get them over the learning curve feels very rewarding. Seeing former members achieving success in well known Corporations, and knowing you helped to get them started is very satisfying too. When former Immortal Guides members say that they got a very real and tangible benefit from starting off in Immortal Guides it inspires me, and those working with me, to continue in our work.
I would like to thank all those who helped me over this past year to provide guidance to new players, weather as instructors in Immortal Guides, or as volunteers from the Learning Coalition chat channel. I could not provide this level of support to the community alone. My greatest achievements within the community have been in setting up frameworks to allow new players and mentors to find each other. It is the mentors, those volunteers, that talk to new players one on one who make the difference. I just try to provide what support I can so that they can make the magic happen.
Special mention goes to:
JuanjoW LaureanoC, our Director of Spanish Affairs, who setup the Novatos Espa+¦ol (Spanish Rookie) chat channel for experienced Spanish speakers to help the new Spanish players, as the English speaking players do in Learning Coalition chat.
Logical Logi, our Student Intern, who is filling a Director position and organizing training PC matches.
To celebrate our anniversary Immortal Guides, with help from Dead ManGÇÖs Game, will be hosting a Dropship Deathmatch, just as soon as enough pilots and gunners sign up to insure we have decent attendance.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.
